"Άνώνυμοι" ή "επώνυμοι"

Επαναφέρω προς συζήτηση το ζήτημα που και παλαιότερα είχα θέσει, χωρίς, όμως, τότε, να λάβω κάποιο σχόλιο [Για τον λόγο αυτό, μάλιστα, σκοπεύω να το θέσω και στην Αγορά της Βικιπαίδειας, προκειμένου να εκφράσουν τη γνώμη τους και πιο έμπειροι διαχειριστές και χρήστες]: Σε κάποια λήμματα (π.χ. Γονείς, Δουλεία, Ευτυχία κ.λπ.), υπήρχαν γνωμικά - αποφθέγματα που είχαν αντληθεί από συγκεκριμένο ιστολόγιο και, συνεπώς, ανέγραφαν ως πηγή τους τον συγκεκριμένο ιστολόγο. Ένας χρήστης των Βικιφθεγμάτων προχώρησε σε διαγραφή των αποφθεγμάτων αυτών, κατ’ εφαρμογή, προφανώς, της σχετικής γενικής αρχής που ισχύει στη Βικιπαίδεια. Όμως, επ' αυτού έχω την ακόλουθη αντίρρηση ή τουλάχιστον προβληματισμό: Σε πολλά λήμματα, υπάρχουν γνωμικά -ρητά -αποφθέγματα χωρίς καν να αναφέρεται τίνος είναι ή, σε άλλες περιπτώσεις, αναγράφεται ως πηγή - προέλευση των γνωμικών αυτών "Ανώνυμος". Μάλιστα υπάρχει και ειδική σελίδα με τον τίτλο "Ανώνυμος" (sic!), όπου έχουν καταχωρηθεί ρήσεις "αγνώστου πατρότητος"... Αναρωτιέμαι, λοιπόν, και ζητώ τη γνώμη όλων των χρηστών. Από το να μένουν κάποια γνωμικά... "ορφανά πατρός" ή να αποδίδεται η πατρότητά τους σε "Άγνωστο", δεν είναι καλύτερα να αναγράφεται το όνομα συγκεκριμένου προσώπου, έστω και εάν αυτός είναι κάποιος blogger; --Seagull.Stefanos[[Συζήτηση_χρήστη

Θα πω απλώς τον γενικό μου προβληματισμό. Παρόλο που γενικώς το απόφθεγμα πρέπει να είναι αντιγραμμένο επί λέξη για ευνόητους λόγους, η μαζική αντιγραφή ή η συστηματική αντιγραφή από συγκεκριμένη συνιστά παραβίαση πνευματικών δικαιωμάτων της συλλογής. Ενώ δηλαδή το να πάρεις ένα κομμάτι από το τάδε βιβλίο για μια φράση που είπε ο δείνα, είναι θεμιτό. Το να ξεσικώσεις μια συλλογή αποφθεγμάτων από κάπου συνιστά παραβίαση της συλλογής. Για αυτόν τον λόγο αν δεν απατώμαι σε κάποια στιγμή τα γαλλικά βικιφθέγματα διαγράφηκαν ολόκληρα και άρχισαν από την αρχή. Αυτά ως προς τα δικαιώματα για να το έχεις υπόψη σου.

Τώρα κατά την γνώμη μου για το καταπόσο είναι πηγή ένα μπλγκ η κάτι άλλο, δεν θα έλεγα να διαγραφούν (δεν είμαι ενεργό μέλος της κοινότητας και δεν το σκοπεύω άμεσα οπότε δεν το κρίνω σωστό να γνωμοδοτήσω για κάτι τέτοι). Πιστεύω όμως ότι γενικά η μόνη αποδεκτή πηγή θα πρέπει να είναι αυτή που παραπέμπει στο πρωτότυπο μέρος όπου ο Συγκεκριμένος έχει πει κάτι. Ακριβώς γιατί με τα αποφθέγματα συμβαίνει πολύ συχνά να αποδίδονται σε λανθασμένα άτομα ρήσεις, ή να αποδίδονται σε πολλούς ή και να αποδίδονται φανταστικά λόγια σε κάποιον. Οπότε η γνώμη θα ήταν ή να μπει η τελική πηγή ή να μην μπει καθόλου (ανεξαρτήτως αν θα υπάρχει το απόσπασμα) έτσι ώστε όταν ενα απόσπασμα έχει πηγή να ξέρει ο άλλος ότι είναι σίγουρο.

Κατα την γνώμη μου πάντα όμως, αυτό που θα έπρεπε να προσέξεις Στέφανε, μια και είσαι ο μόνος ενεργός εδώ (συγνώμη αν κάνω λάθος σε αυτό) είναι να μην γίνεται το πρώτο που σου αναφέρω! Καλή συνέχεια. --Egmontaℨ♤ ^{συζήτηση} 15:56, 15 Ιανουαρίου 2010 (UTC)

Καλά είμαι απίστευτος! Όταν διαβάζω γρήγορα διαβάζω ότι να ναι! Σε άλλα πράγματα απάντησα! :) Σε αυτό που λες η άποψή μου είναι να μην μπαίνουν τέτοια αποφθεγματα, εκτός και αν ο ιστολόγος είναι διάσημος. Αλλιώς π.χ. θα μπορεί ο καθένας να βάζει αποφθέγματα που έχει πει ο ίδιος. Η διαφορά με κάποια από τα ανώνυμα είναι ότι όντως δεν είναι γνωστός αυτός που το είπε, αλλά έχει αναφερθεί από κάποιον άλλο ως τετοιο. Π.χ. Ο τάδε γνωστός Α σε μια ομιλία του αναφέρει το τάδε ρητό Β κάποιου άγνωστου Χ, καί όσο και αν έψαξαν διάφοροι ποτέ δεν βρέθηκε αλλά και όυτε και θυμήθηκε το όνομα του Χ ο Α, ωστόσο το απόφθεγμά του (Β) έμεινε γνωστό στην ιστορία και έτσι πρέπει να καταγραφεί. Αν όμως εγώ π.χ. πω κάτι ωραίο ή έξυπνο δεν νομίζω ότι υπάρχει λόγος να υπάρχει εδώ είτε υπό το όνομά μου είτε υπό το ψευδώνυμό μου είτε υπό τον τίτλο ανώνυμος. --Egmontaℨ♤ ^{συζήτηση} 16:02, 15 Ιανουαρίου 2010 (UTC)

Τα αποφθέγματα δεν είναι απλώς αυτούσιες φράσεις που είπαν διάφοροι-όποιοι-κι-είναι. Το χαρακτηριστικό των αποφθεγμάτων είναι ότι είναι φράσεις καθολικού κύρους ή φράσεις διάσημων προσώπων που χρησιμοποιούνται συχνά από τρίτους για τον σχολιασμό ενός θέματος. Όπως γράφει και ο παραπάνω, η φράση ενός αγνώστου είναι απόφθεγμα επειδή χρησιμοποιείται και επαναλαμβάνεται από άλλους. Η φράση ενός οποιουδήποτε άλλου (ακόμη και γνωστού) που δεν έμεινε εντυπωμένη στον κοινό νου και μνήμη, δεν είναι απόφθεγμα, είναι απλώς μια φράση που πέρασε. --Geraki 18:43, 15 Ιανουαρίου 2010 (UTC)

Αν κατάλαβα καλά το ερώτημα, η απάντησή μου είναι ότι δεν μπορεί να μπαίνει ως συγγραφέας ενός αποφθέγματος κάποιος που απλώς το ανέφερε στο site του ή που το επέλεξε για μια συλλογή του. Άλλο η πηγή (που το βρήκα;) και άλλο αυτός που το είπε. --FocalPoint 20:22, 15 Ιανουαρίου 2010 (UTC)

Από ότι κατάλαβα εγώ, αυτές οι φράσεις αντλήθηκαν από εδώ όπου επιτρέπεται ανάμεσα στα αποφθέγματα να γράφουν οι συνεισφέροντες και δικούς τους αφορισμούς. Δηλαδή ο blogger που αναφερόταν ως συγγραφέας, δεν ήταν απλώς αυτός που την ανέφερε κάπου αλλά αυτός που την σκέφτηκε. Αλλά αυτό δεν την κάνει απόφθεγμα. --Geraki 13:32, 16 Ιανουαρίου 2010 (UTC)

Θα συμφωνήσω με το Geraki (πρωτοτυπία). Το απόφθεγμα στην ελληνική γραμματεία δέχεται και το Ανώνυμος, όπως γνωρίζεις. Καλύτερο να έχεις αποφθέγματα κατά την άποψή μου παρά σκέψεις blogger--Kalogeropoulos 21:17, 16 Ιανουαρίου 2010 (UTC)

Για να γίνει αντιληπτό τί εννοούσα παραπάνω, θέτοντας το ερώτημα: Στο λήμμα "Βίωμα" είχα καταχωρήσει, για παράδειγμα, τις ρήσεις - σκέψεις α) "Κάποια πράγματα δεν διδάσκονται πρέπει να τα ζήσεις" και β) "Μην μηδενίζεις και μην αμφισβητείς κάτι που δεν έχεις βιώσει ή δεν έχεις ερευνήσει", που είχα αντλήσει από το blog "Lockheart" που γράφει κάποιος Σταύρος Σκούτης, γράφοντας, φυσικά, ως πηγή των ρήσεων αυτών "Σκούτης Σπύρος ("Lockheart")". Επί της ουσίας, τώρα. Προσωπικώς διαφωνώ με την άποψη που διατυπώνεται από τους περισσότερούς σας, παραπάνω. Θεωρώ ότι θα ήταν χρήσιμο μια συλλογή αποφθεγμάτων να περιέχει και σκέψεις - αποφθέγματα (και) αγνώστων ανθρώπων, που θα μπορούσαν να βοηθήσουν, περαιτέρω, τη σκέψη οποιουδήποτε ασχολείται με ένα συγκεκριμένο θέμα. Κατά τη γνώμη μου, κάποιος θα καταφύγει σε μια συλλογή αποφθεγμάτων, όχι μόνο για να δει τί έχουν πει κάποιοι διάσημοι για το συγκεκριμένο θέμα, αλλά για να διαβάσει τί έχει ειπωθεί, γενικότερα, επί του θέματος, βοηθούμενος στην προσωπική του αναζήτηση και προβληματισμό. Βεβαίως, επαναλαμβάνω και επισημαίνω, αυτή είναι η προσωπική μου άποψη, που φυσικά δεν μπορεί να αποτελέσει κανόνα για τα Βικιφθέγματα. Γι' αυτό ακριβώς και ζήτησα τη γνώμη της πλειοψηφίας, αλλά και αυτών που είναι γνώστες της φιλοσοφίας των Βικι-εγχειρημάτων, ώστε να έχω σαφή άποψη και ν' ακολουθήσω τους κανόνες. Γιατί δεν κάνεις τότε μια κατηγορία που να αποστασιοποιείται από την έννοια φθέγματα και να την ορίσεις ως σκέψεις σύγχρονων ανθρώπων, η Σκέψεις σύγχρονων ανωνύμων. Σημείωσε ότι δεν είμαι γνώστης της φιλοσοφίας των Βικιφθεγμάτων, οπότε δεν έχει και πολύ νόημα η παραίνεση. Πνευματικά δικαιώματα

Μάλλον μερικά βικιγθέυγματα έχουν πνευματικά δικαιώματα, όπως αυτά εδώ. Αν αυτό συμβαίνει και οι δημιουργοί τους δεν τα παραχωρήσουν, τότε λυπάμαι που το λέω αλλά μάλλον πρέπει να διαγραφούν! Γενικά, η ερώτηση είναι αν έχουμε το δικαίωμα να τα έχουμε στα Βικιφθέγματα. Εσείς τί λέτε;

Κατηγορία "Άνθρωποι"

Κάποιος χρήστης, τις τελευταίες ημέρες, δρώντας ανωνύμως, επεξεργάζεται διάφορα άρθρα που αναφέρονται σε πρόσωπα και αφαιρεί την κατηγοριοποίηση "Άνθρωποι", κατηγοριοποιώντας τα πρόσωπα σε "Αμερικανούς", "Γερμανούς" κ.λπ. Αναμφιβόλως η δημιουργία αυτών των υπο-κατηγοριών είναι χρήσιμη και καλώς κάνει που την ξεκίνησε. Αναρωτιέμαι, όμως, γιατί θα πρέπει να καταργήσουμε τελείως την κατηγορία "Άνθρωποι". Σε κάθε περίπτωση ας το συζητήσουμε πρώρα, άγνωστε φίλε, και στη συνέχεια αποφασίζουμε. Αν τα επιχειρήματά σου είναι πειστικά, ειλικρινά σου λέω ότι θα ακολουθήσω την άποψή σου. Είμαι αυτός που άλλαξα την κατηγοριοποίηση σε κάποια άρθρα αφαιρώντας την κατηγορία "Άνθρωποι" προσθέτοντας παράλληλα μια κατηγορία εθνικότητας. Και αυτό το έκανα όχι για κανένα άλλο λόγο πέραν της πινακίδας που υπάρχει στην κεφαλίδα της κατηγορίας "Άνθρωποι",

Αυτή η κατηγορία δεν πρέπει να περιέχει άρθρα. Παρακαλώ τοποθετείτε ή βοηθήστε να τοποθετηθούν τα άρθρα στις υποκατηγορίες αυτής.

όπως σχολίασα άλλωστε στο πεδίο "Σύνοψη" και εμφανίζεται στην καταγραφή κάθε τέτοιας αλλαγής. Η απορία που αναγράφεται πιο πάνω σχετικά με τα περιεχόμενα της κατηγορίας "Άνθρωποι" σε συνδυασμό με την παρουσία της πινακίδας προκαλεί σύγχυση, γιατί η πινακίδα είναι σαφής, "δεν πρέπει να περιέχει άρθρα". Αν οι αλλαγές που έκανα έπρεπε να αντιστραφούν, όπως και έγινε, τίθεται ζήτημα αφαίρεσης της πινακίδας: Είτε θα πρέπει να αφαιρεθεί η πινακίδα από την κεφαλίδα της κατηγορίας "Άνθρωποι" είτε να αφαιρεθεί η κατηγορία από τα άρθρα.

Διαγραφή των τηλεοπτικών σειρών

Έχουν προταθεί όλες για διαγραφή, γιατί μάλλον παραβιάζουν πνευματικά διακιώματα, το θέμα έχει τεθεί και παλιότερα πιο πάνω στην επικεφαλίδα πνευματικά διακιώματα. Παραθέτω τις απόψεις που εκφράστηκαν στη συζήτηση που έγινε στην αγορά της Βικιπαίδειας από το αρχείο της.

Ναι, αλλά το πρόβλημα δεν είναι απλώς ότι καλύπτονται από πνευματικά δικαιώματα, αλλά επιπλέον ότι δεν δικαιολογούνται σε μιασυλλογή αποφθεγμάτων. Αν ήταν δικαιολογημένη η παράθεση, τότε θα καλύπτονταν από την πρόβλεψη εύλογης χρήσης. Φοβάμαι όμως ότι είναι απλώς στιχομυθίες που άρεσαν σε ένα-δυο άτομα, και όχι ατάκες που έμειναν στην ιστορία και τις θυμάται πολύς κόσμος (π.χ. «είθε η Δύναμη να είναι μαζί σου» (Star Wars), «αύριο θα είναι μια άλλη μέρα» (Όσα Παίρνει ο Άνεμος), «παίξτο Σαμ!» (Καζαμπλάνκα). Αυτά τα τμήματα στιχομυθιών - ατάκες που είδα, αποτελούν μικρό τμήμα έργου που δεν πιστεύω ότι δημιουργούν πρόβλημα κατά τη γνώμη μου λόγω πνευματικών δικαιωμάτων. Το ζήτημα όμως που αναφέρει το Geraki - το αν δηλαδή αυτές οι ατάκες αποτελούν αποφθέγματα... είναι ένα άλλο ζήτημα. 95% του άρθρου που έδειξες παραπάνω, αν όχι 99%, δεν είναι αποφθέγματα, είναι για άμεσο σβήσιμο. --Focal ^Point 00:31, 7 Φεβρουαρίου 2010 (UTC)

2010 Fundraising Is Almost Here

Hello Wikimedians, My name is Sam Chapman and I am working for the Wikimedia Foundation during the 2010 Fundraiser. My job is to be the liaison between your community and the Foundation. This year's fundraiser is intended to be a collaborative and global effort; we recognize that banner messages which may perform well in the United States don't necessarily translate well, or appeal to international audiences.

I'm contacting you as I am currently looking for translators who are willing to contribute to this project by helping translate and localize messages into different languages and suggesting messages that would appeal to your readers on the Fundraising Meta Page. κανονικοποίηση

Υπάρχει κάποια ιδέα για το πως θα καταγράφονται μόνο μία φορά τα διάφορα "τσιτάτα";

π.χ. παροιμίες που περιέχουν ζώα και έννοιες.

1. Θα υπάρχει άρθρο για την παροιμία και θα την κατηγοριοποιεί (δηλαδή θα μπαίνουν κατηγορίες από κάτω) σε ζώα και τις αντίστοιχες έννοιες;
2. Θα τις καταγράφουμε και στα δύο (ή τρία, τέσσερα αν αναφέρεται σε διάφορες έννοιες);

Πολλές παροιμίες έχουν διάφορες εκδοχές και η δημιουργία ενός άρθρου για την παροιμία ίσως διευκόλυνε την καταγραφή εκεί αυτών των εκδοχών. Βικιφιλικά --Xoristzatziki 06:38, 25 Δεκεμβρίου 2010 (UTC)

Announcing Wikipedia 1.19 beta

Wikimedia Foundation is getting ready to push out 1.19 to all the WMF-hosted wikis. As we finish wrapping up our code review, you can test the new version right now on beta.wmflabs.org. For more information, please read the release notes or the start of the final announcement.

The following are the areas that you will probably be most interested in:

• Faster loading of javascript files makes dependency tracking more important.
• New common*.css files usable by skins instead of having to copy piles of generic styles from MonoBook or Vector's css.
• The default user signature now contains a talk link in addition to the user link.
• Searching blocked usernames in block log is now clearer.
• Better timezone recognition in user preferences.
• Improved diff readability for colorblind people.
• The interwiki links table can now be accessed also when the interwiki cache is used (used in the API and the Interwiki extension).
• More gender support (for instance in logs and user lists).
• Language converter improved, e.g. it now works depending on the page content language.
• Time and number-formatting magic words also now depend on the page content language.
• Bidirectional support further improved after 1.18.

Report any problems on the labs beta wiki and we'll work to address them before they software is released to the production wikis.

Update on IPv6

The Wikimedia Foundation is planning to do limited testing of IPv6 on June 2-3. If there are not too many problems, we may fully enable IPv6 on World IPv6 day (June 6), and keep it enabled.

What this means for your project:

• At least on June 2-3, 2012, you may see a small number of edits from IPv6 addresses, which are in the form "2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334". See e.g. w:en:IPv6 address. These addresses should behave like any other IP address: You can leave messages on their talk pages; you can track their contributions; you can block them. (See the full version of this announcement for notes on range blocks.)

• In the mid term, some user scripts and tools will need to be adapted for IPv6.

• We suspect that IPv6 usage is going to be very low initially, meaning that abuse should be manageable, and we will assist in the monitoring of the situation.

Mobile view as default view coming soon

Help decide about more than $10 million of Wikimedia donations in the coming year

As many of you are aware, the Wikimedia Board of Trustees recently initiated important changes in the way that money is being distributed within the Wikimedia movement. As part of this, a new community-led "Funds Dissemination Committee" (FDC) is currently being set up. Already in 2012-13, its recommendations will guide the decisions about the distribution of over 10 million US dollars among the Foundation, chapters and other eligible entities.

Now, seven capable, knowledgeable and trustworthy community members are sought to volunteer on the initial Funds Dissemination Committee. It is expected to take up its work in September. In addition, a community member is sought to be the Ombudsperson for the FDC process. If you are interested in joining the committee, read the call for volunteers. Nominations are planned to close on August 15.

Wikidata is getting close to a first roll-out

As some of you might already have heard Wikimedia Deutschland is working on a new Wikimedia project. It is called m:Wikidata. The goal of Wikidata is to become a central data repository for the Wikipedias, its sister projects and the world. In the future it will hold data like the number of inhabitants of a country, the date of birth of a famous person or the length of a river. These can then be used in all Wikimedia projects and outside of them.

The project is divided into three phases and "we are getting close to roll-out the first phase". The phases are:

1. language links in the Wikipedias (making it possible to store the links between the language editions of an article just once in Wikidata instead of in each linked article)
2. infoboxes (making it possible to store the data that is currently in infoboxes in one central place and share the data)
3. lists (making it possible to create lists and similar things based on queries to Wikidata so they update automatically when new data is added or modified)

It'd be great if you could join us, test the demo version, provide feedback and take part in the development of Wikidata. You can find all the relevant information including an FAQ and sign-up links for our on-wiki newsletter on the Wikidata page on Meta.

Fundraising localization: volunteers from outside the USA needed

The Wikimedia Foundation's Fundraising team have begun our 'User Experience' project, with the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries outside the USA and enhancing the localization of our donation pages. I am searching for volunteers to spend 30 minutes on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real-time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)

By helping us you are actually helping thousands of people to support our mission of free knowledge across the world. Wikimedia sites to move to primary data center in Ashburn, Virginia. Read-only mode expected.

This is intended to improve the technical performance and reliability of all Wikimedia sites, including this wiki. Η ιδέα της παρουσίασης των κειμένων με άλλη γραμματοσειρά είναι καταρχήν θετική. Το πρόβλημα είναι ότι δεν μπορούμε να χρησιμοποιούμε συγκεκριμένες γραμματοσειρές αλλά μόνο "υποδείξεις" προς τον φυλλομετρητή για το τι είδος γραμματοσειράς να χρησιμοποιήσει. Το προαναφερόμενο παράδειγμα εμφανίζεται στο δικό μου υπολογιστή πολύ μπουκωμένο (μάλλον χρειάζεται μεγαλύτερη απόσταση ανάμεσα στις γραμμές). Μου αρέσει όμως η ιδέα μιας ξεχωριστής γραμματοσειράς με ουρίτσες... (serif) για τα κυρίως κείμενα, ίσως γιατί είμαι συνηθισμένος σε τέτοιες από τα βιβλία. Τα προγράμματα περιήγησης θα παίξουν την γραμματοσειρά που θα τους πούμε εκτός από εξαιρετικά σπάνιες περιπτώσεις που κάποιος έχει ρυθμίσει το δικό του να παίζει μόνο τις γραμματοσειρές που εκείνος έχει επιλέξει. Η συγκεκριμένη που έχω στο παράδειγμα είναι η Palatino Linotype η οποία όντως είναι serif, και νομίζω αποδίδει ωραία τα Ελληνικά, ακόμα και στην πολυτονική τους μορφή. Επί πλέον είναι δωρεάν για χρήση στο διαδίκτυο.

Το "μπούκωμα" ίσως κατάλαβα πως το εννοείς. Το δείγμα που έχω κάνει επιδέχεται αλλαγές μετά από προτάσεις που θα γίνουν. Επί του παρόντος έκανα μία διόρθωση για να φύγει το "μπούκωμα" που έβλεπες. Ελπίζω να το βλέπεις τώρα καλλίτερα.

Να δούμε τι θα προκύψει και από την συμμετοχή άλλων και τα ξαναλέμε.

Convert complex templates to Lua to make them faster and more powerful

There is a new request for comment on Meta-Wiki concerning the removal of administrative rights from long-term inactive Wikimedians. Generally, this proposal from stewards would apply to wikis without an administrators' review process.

We are also compiling a list of projects with procedures for removing inactive administrators on the talk page of the request for comment. Feel free to add your project(s) to the list if you have a policy on administrator inactivity.

All input is appreciated. The discussion may close as soon as 21 May 2013 (2013-05-21), but this will be extended if needed.

The default position of the "edit" link in page section headers is going to change soon. The "edit" link will be positioned adjacent to the page header text rather than floating opposite it.

Section edit links will be to the immediate right of section titles, instead of on the far right. If you're an editor of one of the wikis which already implemented this change, nothing will substantially change for you; however, scripts and gadgets depending on the previous implementation of section edit links will have to be adjusted to continue working; however, nothing else should break even if they are not updated in time.

Ideas to do this all the way to 2009 at least. It is often difficult to track which of several potential section edit links on the far right is associated with the correct section, and many readers and anonymous or new editors may even be failing to notice section edit links at all, since they read section titles, which are far away from the links.

Recent software changes

• The latest version of MediaWiki (version 1.22/wmf4) was added to non-Wikipedia wikis on May 13, and to the English Wikipedia (with a Wikidata software update) on May 20. It will be updated on all other Wikipedia sites on May 22. [1] [2]
• A software update will perhaps result in temporary issues with images. Please report any problems you notice. [3]
• MediaWiki recognizes links in twelve new schemes. Users can now link to SSH, XMPP and Bitcoin directly from wikicode. [4]
• VisualEditor was added to all content namespaces on mediawiki.org on May 20. [5]
• A new extension ("TemplateData") was added to all Wikipedia sites on May 20. It will allow a future version of VisualEditor to edit templates. [6]
• New sites: Greek Wikivoyage and Venetian Wiktionary joined the Wikimedia family last week; the total number of project wikis is now 794. [7] [8]
• The logo of 18 Wikipedias was changed to version 2.0 in a third group of updates. [9]
• The UploadWizard on Commons now shows links to the old upload form in 55 languages (bug 33513). [10]

Future software changes

• The next version of MediaWiki (version 1.22/wmf5) will be added to Wikimedia sites starting on May 27. [11]

Pywikipedia is migrating to git

Hello, Sorry for English but It's very important for bot operators so I hope someone translates this. Pywikipedia is migrating to Git so after July 26, SVN checkouts won't be updated If you're using Pywikipedia you have to switch to git, otherwise you will use out-dated framework and your bot might not work properly. There is a manual for doing that and a blog post explaining about this change in non-technical language. The Wikimedia Foundation's editor engagement team developed this tool (code-named 'Echo') earlier this year, to help users contribute more productively to MediaWiki projects.

We're now getting ready to bring Notifications to almost all other Wikimedia sites, and are aiming for a 22 October deployment, as outlined in this release plan. It is important that notifications is translated for all of the languages we serve.

There are three major points of translation needed to be either done or checked:

• Echo on translatewiki for user interface - you must have an account on translatewiki to translate

Speak up about the trademark registration of the Community logo.

Hi all,

Please join the consultation about the Community logo that represents Meta-Wiki: m:Community Logo/Request for consultation.

This community consultation was commenced on September 24. The following day, two individuals filed a legal opposition against the registration of the Community logo.

The question is whether the Wikimedia Foundation should seek a collective membership mark with respect to this logo or abandon its registration and protection of the trademark.

We want to make sure that everyone get a chance to speak up so that we can get clear direction from the community. We would therefore really appreciate the community's help in translating this announcement from English so that everyone is able to understand it.

Introducting Beta Features

We would like to let you know about Beta Features, a new program from the Wikimedia Foundation that lets you try out new features before they are released for everyone.

Think of it as a digital laboratory where community members can preview upcoming software and give feedback to help improve them. This special preference page lets designers and engineers experiment with new features on a broad scale, but in a way that's not disruptive.

Beta Features is now ready for testing on MediaWiki.org. It will also be released on Wikimedia Commons and MetaWiki this Thursday, 7 November. Based on test results, the plan is to release it on all wikis worldwide on 21 November, 2013.

Here are the first features you can test this week:

• Media Viewer — view images in large size or full screen
• VisualEditor Formulæ (for wikis with VisualEditor) — edit algebra or equations on your pages
• Typography Refresh — make text more readable (coming Thursday)

Would you like to try out Beta Features now? After you log in on MediaWiki.org, a small 'Beta' link will appear next to your 'Preferences'. Click on it to see features you can test, check the ones you want, then click 'Save'. Learn more on the Beta Features page.

Request for comment on Commons: Should Wikimedia support MP4 video?

The Wikimedia Foundation's multimedia team seeks community guidance on a proposal to support the MP4 video format. This digital video standard is used widely around the world to record, edit and watch videos on mobile phones, desktop computers and home video devices. It is also known as H.264/MPEG-4 or AVC.

Supporting the MP4 format would make it much easier for our users to view and contribute video on Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects -- and video files could be offered in dual formats on our sites, so we could continue to support current open formats (WebM and Ogg Theora).

However, MP4 is a patent-encumbered format, and using a proprietary format would be a departure from our current practice of only supporting open formats on our sites -- even though the licenses appear to have acceptable legal terms, with only a small fee required.

We would appreciate your guidance on whether or not to support MP4. Our Request for Comments presents views both in favor and against MP4 support, based on opinions we’ve heard in our discussions with community and team members.

Universal Language Selector will be enabled by default again on this wiki by 21 February 2014

On January 21 2014 the MediaWiki extension Universal Language Selector (ULS) was disabled on this wiki. A new preference was added for logged-in users to turn on ULS. This was done to prevent slow loading of pages due to ULS webfonts, a behaviour that had been observed by the Wikimedia Technical Operations team on some wikis.

We are now ready to enable ULS again. The temporary preference to enable ULS will be removed. A new checkbox has been added to the Language Panel to enable/disable font delivery. This will be unchecked by default for this wiki, but can be selected at any time by the users to enable webfonts. This is an interim solution while we improve the feature of webfonts delivery.

Individual Engagement Grants from the Wikimedia Foundation help support individuals and small teams to organize experiments for 6 months. You can get funding to try out your idea for online community organizing, outreach, tool-building, or research to help make Βικιφθέγματα better. In March, we’re looking for new project proposals.

Examples of past Individual Engagement Grant projects:

• Organizing social media for Chinese Wikipedia ($350 for materials)
• Improving gadgets for Visual Editor ($4500 for developers)
• Coordinating access to reliable sources for Wikipedians ($7500 for project management, consultants and materials)
• Building community and strategy for Wikisource (€10000 for organizing and travel)

Proposals are due by 31 March 2014. There are a number of ways to get involved!

Language links (interwiki) via Wikidata are coming

Hey everyone :)

I just wanted to let you know that Wikiquote will be the next sister project to be supported by Wikidata. Initially you will be able to maintain the links between the language editions of Wikiquote on Wikidata. This means you will no longer have to maintain them in the wiki text of each article. (However you will still be able to if you want to and local links will overwrite the ones from Wikidata in that case.) We plan to enable this on April 8th for you. At a later point (depending on how this initial roll-out goes) you will also get access to the other data on Wikidata like the date of birth of a scientist for example.

If you have any questions please come to d:Wikidata:Wikiquote where we'll try to answer all of them. If you're already familiar with Wikidata and want to act as an ambassador please add your name to the list there to help people find you.

Changes to the default site typography coming soon

This week, the typography on Wikimedia sites will be updated for all readers and editors who use the default "Vector" skin. This change will involve new serif fonts for some headings, small tweaks to body content fonts, text size, text color, and spacing between elements. The schedule is:

• April 1st: non-Wikipedia projects will see this change live
• April 3rd: Wikipedias will see this change live

This change is very similar to the "Typography Update" Beta Feature that has been available on Wikimedia projects since November 2013. After several rounds of testing and with feedback from the community, this Beta Feature will be disabled and successful aspects enabled in the default site appearance. Users who are logged in may still choose to use another skin, or alter their personal CSS, if they prefer a different appearance. Local common CSS styles will also apply as normal, for issues with local styles and scripts that impact all users.

Hi everyone,

As previously announced we have just enabled the first part of Wikidata support. This means from now on you can maintain your interwiki links on Wikidata and no longer need to keep them in the wikitext locally. The local links will continue to work and overwrite what is coming from Wikidata. A community member is currently running a bot to take care of the migration where possible so you don't have to do it by hand in most cases.

You can not yet access the other data on Wikidata like the date of birth of a person. This will come in the near future. I will let you know when I have a date for it.

If you have any questions please come to d:Wikidata:Wikiquote. There we have a bunch of helpful people to answer them.

Welcome to the Wikidata family! I'm excited about this first step. More to come. I am looking forward to seeing how this will help you make Wikiquote even better in the future.

Not long ago we enabled language links via Wikidata for Wikiquote. This seems to have gone rather smoothly. Thanks to everyone who helped! But as you know this was only the start. What is actually more interesting is access to the data in Wikidata. We have planned this for June 10th (unless any issues arise). You will then be able to use the data in your articles. I hope this will open up a lot of new opportunities for you.

Using only UploadWizard for uploads

Hello! It was noted that on this wiki you have less than 10 local files. Presumably, you therefore don't have interest nor energies to have hundreds templates with the now required HTML, even less a local EDP. However, this means that users here will experience a mostly broken and/or illegal uploading. I propose to

• have local upload restricted to the "Διαχειριστές" group (for emergency uploads) and
• the sidebar point to commons:Special:UploadWizard,

so that you can avoid local maintenance and all users can have a functioning, easy upload interface in their own language. All registered users can upload on Commons and existing files will not be affected.

I'll get this done in one week from now.

I wanted to let you know that Media Viewer will be released to this wiki in the coming weeks. Media Viewer allows readers of Wikimedia projects to have an enhanced view of files without having to visit the file page, but with more detail than a thumbnail. You can try Media Viewer out now by turning it on in your Beta Features. If you do not enjoy Media Viewer or if it interferes with your work after it is turned on you will be able to disable Media Viewer as well in your preferences. Wikidata Phase 2 is here

This will open the opportunity for all Wikiquote's to start sharing the same data as other languages as well as other projects. Media Viewer displays images in larger size when you click on their thumbnails, to provide a better viewing experience. Users can now view images faster and more clearly, without having to jump to separate pages — and its user interface is more intuitive, offering easy access to full-resolution images and information, with links to the file repository for editing. The tool has been tested extensively across all Wikimedia wikis over the past six months as a Beta Feature and has been released to the largest Wikipedias, all language Wikisources, and the English Wikivoyage already.

If you do not like this feature, you can easily turn it off by clicking on "Disable Media Viewer" at the bottom of the screen, pulling up the information panel (or in your your preferences) whether you have an account or not. Learn more in this Media Viewer Help page.

Letter petitioning WMF to reverse recent decisions

The Wikimedia Foundation recently created a new feature, "superprotect" status. The purpose is to prevent pages from being edited by elected administrators -- but permitting WMF staff to edit them. It has been put to use in only one case: to protect the deployment of the Media Viewer software on German Wikipedia, in defiance of a clear decision of that community to disable the feature by default, unless users decide to enable it.

If you oppose these actions, please add your name to this letter. If you know non-Wikimedians who support our vision for the free sharing of knowledge, and would like to add their names to the list, please ask them to sign an identical version of the letter on change.org.

Meta RfCs on two new global groups

Hello all,

There are currently requests for comment open on meta to create two new global groups. The first is a group for members of the OTRS permissions queue, which would grant them autopatrolled rights on all wikis except those who opt-out. That proposal can be found at m:Requests for comment/Creation of a global OTRS-permissions user group. The second is a group for Wikimedia Commons admins and OTRS agents to view deleted file pages through the 'viewdeletedfile' right on all wikis except those who opt-out. We would like to hear what you think on both proposals. Both are in English; if you wanted to translate them into your native language that would also be appreciated.

It is possible for individual projects to opt-out, so that users in those groups do not have any additional rights on those projects. To do this please start a local discussion, and if there is consensus you can request to opt-out of either or both at m:Stewards' noticeboard.

Global AbuseFilter

Hello,

AbuseFilter is a MediaWiki extension used to detect likely abusive behavior patterns, like pattern vandalism and spam. In 2013, Global AbuseFilters were enabled on a limited set of wikis including Meta-Wiki, MediaWiki.org, Wikispecies and (in early 2014) all the "small wikis". Recently, global abuse filters were enabled on "medium sized wikis" as well. These filters are currently managed by stewards on Meta-Wiki and have shown to be very effective in preventing mass spam attacks across Wikimedia projects. However, there is currently no policy on how the global AbuseFilters will be managed although there are proposals. There is an ongoing request for comment on policy governing the use of the global AbuseFilters. In the meantime, specific wikis can opt out of using the global AbuseFilter. These wikis can simply add a request to this list on Meta-Wiki. More details can be found on this page at Meta-Wiki. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on m:Talk:Global AbuseFilter.

VisualEditor coming to this wiki as a Beta Feature

VisualEditor, a rich-text editor for MediaWiki, will soon be available on this wiki as a Beta Feature. The estimated date of activation is Wednesday, 26 November.

To access it, you will need to visit the Δοκιμαστικές λειτουργίες page after the deployment and tick the box next to "⧼Visualeditor-preference-core-label⧽". (If you have enabled the "Αυτόματη ενεργοποίηση των περισσότερων δοκιμαστικών χαρακτηριστικών" option, VisualEditor will be automatically available for you.) There will also be a "⧼Visualeditor-preference-language-label⧽" that you can enable if you need it.

Then, you just have to click on "Επεξεργασία" to start VisualEditor, or on "Επεξεργασία κώδικα" to edit using wikitext markup. You can even begin to edit pages with VisualEditor and then switch to the wikitext editor simply by clicking on its tab at any point, and you can keep your changes when doing so.

Μετονομασία Ιστοχώρου της κοινότητας

Προτείνω τη μετονομασία του παρόντος χώρου σε «Βήμα» (το μέρος ή η ευκαιρία που έχει κάποιος να εκφράσει δημόσια τις απόψεις του), πιο σύντομο και πιο κομψό από το τωρινό.
